FTP
with WSFTP for WINDOWS 95/98
This page will help you
set up the WSFTP (Windows 3.x & 95/98 ONLY) program. It will also
provide a basic tutorial on how to transfer web pages to your personal
area.
There are 3 requirements for using the WSFTP program:
You must be connected to
the Internet. This is done by either dialup, direct connection or ISDN
You must have a working, unzipped copy of the WSFTP program. To obtain
a copy, you may either:

Once you have fulfilled
these criteria, move on to the next steps in the setup process.
STEP 1: Activate the
WSFTP Program. (Figure 1)
- Activate the WSFTP program
by clicking on File/Run/Browse (Windows 3.x) or Start/Run/Browse (Windows
95) and then select the directory where you installed wsftp.exe (Windows
3.X) or wsftp32.exe (Windows 95) program and double click it and click
OK. You should see a screen similar to the one on the left.
- If no other box pops
up when you activate the WSFTP Program, click the button marked Connect
(marked by the green arrow).

STEP 2: Set up your session
profile. (Figure 2)
- Click the button named
New (outlined in yellow)
- The fields marked by
green arrows are fields which you must supply data for in this screen.
All other fields are unimportant.
- The buttons outlined
in blue, red and yellow are the only buttons which you will use during
the setup and after.
- In the field named Profile
Name, you will need to type a name for your profile that you can identify
later. A name such as My Home Page will be sufficient.
- In the field named Host
Name, you will need to type the name of the FTP host you are going
to connect to. You can obtain this from the email you received when
you requested your home page, it will be listed after FTP HOST:. It
should be same as your provider's home page address.
- In the field named User
ID, you will type the FTP USERNAME found in the email you received
when your homepage was set up. This will usually be your LABridge
login username.
- In the Password field,
you will need to type the FTP PASSWORD found in the email you received
when your homepage was set up.
- The Save Password box
is the ONLY box which needs to be checked, if Anonymous Login or Auto
Save Config are checked, uncheck them.

- The Local PC field is
an actual location on your computer where you create and save your
web pages before you send them to the server. For example, if you
created and saved pages in C:\web\pages, you would type c:\web\pages
in this field.
- Once you have typed the
required data in the fields, click the button named Save (outlined
in blue).
- Click the button named
OK (outlined in red) to connect to the FTP server.
STEP 3: Transfer
your pages. (Figure 3).
- Once you have connected
to the FTP server, you will see a graphic similar to the one below
(without the colors, numbers or indicators).
- Notice the columns outlined
in red and blue these correspond to:
1. Your computer and
2. The Remote FTP Server (your web page area on our computer).
- Notice the other numbered
locations on the graphic, they correspond to:
3. The directory location on your computer
4. Buttons which control creation, deletion and movememt to directories
on your computer (ChgDir - Change Directories, MkDir - Create Directory,
RmDir - Delete Directory)
5. Buttons which control creation, deletion and movememt to directories
on the FTP server (ChgDir - Change Directories, MkDir - Create Directory,
RmDir - Delete Directory)
6. Transfer button to transfer files from the FTP server to your computer,
Remote-to-Local.
7. Transfer button to transfer files from your computer to the FTP
server, Local-to-Remote.

- To transfer web pages
from your computer to the FTP server (your web page area), you need
to click on each file (in the Local Column in red, #1 in Figure 3)
ONCE to highlight it and then click the Local-to-Remote arrow button
(#8 in Figure 3)
- To transfer web pages
from the FTP server to your computer, you need to click on each file
(in the Remote Column, #2 on Figure 3) ONCE to highlight it and then
click the Remote-to-Local arrow button (#7 in Figure 3)
- To delete files in your
web area, click each file (in the Remote Column, #2 in Figure 3) ONCE
and click the DELETE button on the Remote side.
