Configuring DSL For Windows NT

 

Configuring Windows 98 for your DSL connection is very simple. This tutorial will walk you through each step of the Network settings to get you online with your DSL connection.

Before you start, make sure you have the following setup.

  • Make sure the ethernet wire that came with the DSL modem has one end connected to the DSL modem and the other end connected to your computer or an ethernet hub. If you have it connected to a hub, then make sure that you have an ethernet wire connected from the ethernet hub to ethernet port on your computer.

 
1. Network Control Panel
First you need to open the Network Control Panel. You and it by clicking on the Windows Start button and select Settings > Control Panel. Now find the Network Control Panel and open it. See example image below.

TCP/IP Protocol
Select the Protocols tab, then click on TCP/IP Protocol and click on Properties. See example image below.

3. IP Address & Ethernet Adapter
Now click on the IP Address tab in the TCP/IP Properties window. From the Adapter menu select the Ethernet Adapter for your computer. Then check Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server. See example image below.

DNS Settings
Next click on the DNS tab and enter your username in the Host Name field. Do not add any domain name servers. If there are any there domain name servers in the DSN Service Search Order or Domain Suffix Search Order fields
then delete them. See example image below.

DSL Configuration On Windows NT Complete
Now click OK and restart if needed. Now you are ready to connect to the Internet.
