Configuring Windows 2000 For DSL

 

Configuring Windows 2000 for your DSL connection is very simple. This tutorial will walk you through each step of the Network settings to get you online with your DSL connection.

Before you start, make sure you have the following setup.

  • Make sure the ethernet wire that came with the DSL modem has one end connected to the DSL modem and the other end connected to your computer or an ethernet hub. If you have it connected to a hub, then make sure that you have an ethernet wire connected from the ethernet hub to ethernet port on your computer.
1. Network Connection
Start out on the Desktop and have all your applications closed. Now double click on MyComputer and find the Control Panel folder, open it. Now find the Network and Dial-up Connections icon in the Control Panels folder, open it. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Proprieties. See example image below.

Internet Protocol TCP/IP
Now select the TCP/IP protocol and click on Properties. See example image below.

Configuring For DHCP
Set the IP address information to be Obtain an IP address automatically. Then set the DNS server information to Obtain DNS server address automatically. See example image below.

This is all that needs to be done to connect to the Internet. Simply click OK and then click OK again and restart your computer.
